뮤지컬-미스 사이공 Musical Miss Sigon

*오랜만에 오클라호마 털사 시에 갈 일이 생겨서, '미스 사이공' 뮤지컬 공연도 함께 보았다. 

My husband and I visited Tulsa. We watched a musical called "Miss Saigon" at Tulsa PAC (Performing Art Center). 

나는 털사가 좋다. 털사에 여러번 가 보지는 않았지만, 뭔가 역사적이고 그러면서도 좀 도시적인 분위기가 난다. 

오래된 건물들도 보이고, 또 대학 주변에는 자유로운 분위기도 느껴진다. 털사로 가는 도로 주변으로 큰 숲들이 있어서, 이 또한 즐기게 된다.

I like Tulsa city. We have been there not so many times though, I love the historic buildings. This city also has modern buildings as well. 

*이름만 들어봤던 미스 사이공

'미스 사이공'이란 제목은 늘 이름만 들어봤고, 무슨 내용인지 하나도 모르고 공연을 관람했다. 좀 슬픈 장면도 있고, 상당히 역사적, 정치적인 부분이 많았다. 미국과 타 국가들간의 전쟁, 그리고 미군과 현지 여성들과의 관계, 이로 인해 태어난 2세들의 정체성 및 미래 문제 등등. 진부하다고 생각이 되면서도, 어쩔 수 없는 현실의 일부는 '떠나간 (미군)남편 바라기만 하고, 그 사이에서 낳은 자식을 키웠지만, 이미 떠나간 남편은 마음도 정리한 채 미국에서 잘 먹고 잘 살더라'는 이야기. 

"Miss Saigon"

I only heard about the titled, "Miss Saigon". Actually I didn't know the whole story. When I saw the musical, there were some sad scenes. I think this musical contains lots of historic and political parts of the United States. Wars between the United States and other countries such as Vietnam, relationships between American military men and local women, and their children's identity issues and their future problems. It might sound cliche. However, some tragic stories can be true that tells 'local woman who always missed the American military man. She raised their baby as a hope. Nevertheless, the American man already has his family in the United States and try to forget his past and live the present". Actually this is the main story of Miss Saigon. 

내가 만약 시나리오 작가가 된다면, 오늘날의 제2세대, 제3세대 미스, 미스터 사이공들의 이야기를 만들어 보고 싶다! 미국이 다문화 국가라고 하는데, 진짜 '다문화'의 문화가 무엇일까? 다름을 인정하고 함께 어울려 산다는 것의 진짜 의미, 실체는 뭘까? 

If I can be the writer, I want to write about the 'after story' of Miss Saigon. How those babies grow up and how is their present life? What is the real meaning of Multicultural society? What is real meaning of living together when we are different? 

이 공연에서 가장 슬펐던 장면은 주인공 '킴'의 죽음보다, 킴이 자신의 '형식상 남편'을 총으로 쏘고 그의 몸을 부여잡고 우는 장면이었다. 인간이 의도하지 않은 비극을 맞이할때 진짜 비극이 탄생하는 것이겠지. 어느 누가 그런 상황을 자발적으로 맞이하고 싶겠는가. 모든 것을 환경 탓으로 돌릴 수는 없지만, 이 뮤지컬에 등장하는 대부분의 인물들은 자신을 둘러싼 환경, 사회, 역사의 산물처럼 보였다.
